Hello, and welcome to our substack, tentatively titled “The Whale”.
Two questions come to mind. Why “The Whale”, and why tentative?
Why “The Whale”?
Well, “The Whale” is our thumb in the eye of the wanna-be disrupters who Zoom-bombed a recent webinar we held. Strangely, they thought calling some of us “whales” was insulting.
Whales are amazing singers, some of the largest and longest living animals on the planet, they host whole ecosystems comprising many smaller organisms around them, and are perhaps our best example of what it means to be a “gentle giant”.
If they knew us better they would have realized that our raison d'etre is, pretty much, people making less than stellar choices, so their ignorant acting out is simply fuel for our fire.
Why is the title tentative?
Now, why is the title tentative? Well, we thought it would be fun to let you, gentle reader, decide what the name of this little newsletter will be.
So, if you’ve got a great idea for a name head on over to this Google Form and let us know! In a couple of months after we’ve built up a bit of a following (we hope) and received enough submissions we will create a poll to see which one is most popular. (Of course, if you like The Whale and want to keep it, go ahead and submit that.)
What the newsletter will look like.
Now, what are we thinking with this newsletter and how is it different from our occasional newsletters you may already receive? (This is probably helpful information for coming up with those name ideas!)
Where our regular newsletter is semi-regular and often packed with a bunch of information on a variety of issues, The Whale will be more frequent and more focused.
As of now we have four writers lined up, each taking turns at the wheel on respective weeks. As a result it’s likely there will be four distinctive versions, ranging from more policy focused to more literary to more, perhaps, poetic. (Who knows!)
As with all Substack publications there are readily available opportunities for comment, unlike newsletters delivered via regular old email. (Of course it’s always been possible to reply to an emailed newsletter, and we enjoy getting those, but with Substack you can leave comments online and engage with others’ comments.)
